Lymphedema/Oncology Rehabilitation/Cancer Exercise Rehab

Lymphedema Program

Today there are millions of patients living in the U.S. suffering from lymphedema and its complications. Manual Lymph Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy are the only effective treatments for this condition. Manual lymph drainage is effective in the following patients:

  • Post-mastectomy
  • Post-surgical and Post-traumatic Swellings
  • Sports Injuries
  • Chronic Venous Insufficiencies
  • Amputee Stump Edema
  • Migraine Headaches
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Swelling of Other Genesis

ProActive therapists utilize both Manual Lymph Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy a systemic treatment approach to minimize lymphedema as well as any fibrotic areas in order to soften and normalize the tissues.

Customized treatments include lymphatic drainage techniques which redirect lymph from pathways that are obstructed to those which are healthy and unobstructed.

Self bandaging with the use of high and low density foams, home exercise programs, and self manual lymphatic drainage are taught to each patient. Education regarding the importance of skin and nail care are also included in each program.

Ultimately, once the edematous limb has been reduced completely, the patient will be measured for a compression garment which will be worn to assist in maintaining the reduction.

Oncology Rehabilitation

ProActive offers rehabilitation services by an experienced staff of therapists. Our goal is to help people with cancer recover normal physical functions and return to their everyday activities at home and work. Education and independence are important components of every physical therapy regimen to return control and self reliance to patients.

Our program begins with a detailed interview and evaluation process. After the initial referral by the patients' oncologist or primary care physician, the patient receives a thorough evaluation by the physical therapist. The medical treatment plan for each patient includes customized medical therapies. These may focus upon the health of the muscles or bones, the nervous system, lymphatic system, or the heart and respiratory system, depending upon the need and goals.

Evaluation and treatment process includes:

  • Education about the patients' diagnosis and expected results regarding physical therapy and rehabilitation.
  • Development of treatment goals and strategies to achieve them based upon the patients' goals.
  • Customization of therapeutic methods.
  • Development of individual home exercise program.
  • Re-evaluation and treatment adjustments.

Our hours of operation at 7am-7pm Monday-Friday.
